Chizhou is located in the southwest of Anhui Province, on the south bank of the middle and lower reaches of the Yangtze River.It was established as a prefecture and set up a government in the fourth year of the Wudeera(a reign title) of the Tang Dynasty (621 AD),with a history of more than 1,400 years. In 2000, Chizhou was established as a municipality,having jurisdiction over Guichi District, Dongzhi, Shitai andQingyang County, Jiuhua Mountainand Pingtian Lake Scenic Area,andJiangnan Emerging Industrial Development Zone, nationalChizhou Economicand Technological Development Zone.
